A new nationwide poll has revealed that Hollywood film and television influences Democratic Party voter more easily than Republican voters.

The poll, conducted by The Hollywood Reporter and Morning Consult, surveyed 2,200 people if, and to what degree, has television and film changed their perspectives on highly contentious political issues like immigration, the second amendment, climate change, racism, and LGBT rights.

The poll revealed a number of captivating trends, but perhaps the most fascinating was that Democratic Party voters were more likely to have their opinions altered by Hollywood than their Republican counterparts.

One question on the survey asked To what extent has your opinion about racism been changed by a docuseries, movie, or TV show like ‘Green Book’ or ‘Crash’?” 17 percent of Democrats responded with “a lot”, compared to just 4 percent of Republicans .

Another question asked “To what extent has your opinion about climate change been changed by docuseries, movies, or TV shows like ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ or ‘Planet Earth’?” This time 27 percent of Democrats and only 7 percent of Republicans responded with ‘a lot’.

The same trend was present concerning LGBT issues. When asked “to what extent has your opinion about LGBTQ people been changed by a docuseries, movie, or TV show like ‘Brokeback Mountain’ or ‘Modern Family’?” 15 percent of Democrats said ‘a lot’ in contrast to just five percent of Republicans.

Bearing all of this in mind, results from a 2018 Gallup survey which showed that the average American vastly overestimates the percentage of the LGBTQ population begin to make a lot more sense.

When asked to guess the percentage of gay and lesbian people in the U.S., 35% of the poll respondents said “more than 25 percent”, 19 percent estimated “20 to 25 percent”, and 24 said somewhere between 10 and 20 percent.

Just 8 percent of the individuals who responded to the poll suggested that less than 5 percent of Americans are gay or lesbian – the figure that’s the closest to the mark.

As per a May 2018 Gallup survey, just 4.5 percent of Americans identify as LGBT.

In light of the results of these surveys, it’s not difficult to come to the conclusion that the prevalence of LGBT visibility in Hollywood is altering people’s perceptions of reality.

  1. I think this article fails to recognize the fact that the more Hollywood glorifies this sort of stuff the more the majority of us get disgusted by it. SO, they influence in a negative way.

  2. I could care less about Hollywood political opinions are any of their opinions for that matter. They are merely entertainment and sometimes not even that. They do not influence me. Most are morally bankrupt, standing for anything and everything.
