Guatemalan illegal alien who killed 4 kids in 2008 bus crash arrested after she illegally re-entered the country.
ICE has arrested a Guatemalan woman for illegally re-entering the United States after she had been deported following an eight year prison stint for killing four children in a car crash.
35-year-old Olga Franco del Cid was arrested at her residence in Inver Grove, Minnesota on Tuesday after ICE agents were tipped off that she had returned illegally to the country, FOX9 Minneapolis-St. Paul reports.
“It appeared she was trying to move residences quickly,” ICE Deputy Field Office Director Shawn Byers said.
“So, we believe she may have been tipped off that we were looking for her and trying to flee but that’s all speculative at this point,” Byers added.
In 2008, Franco del Cid – an illegal immigrant – was convicted of killing four children after she had run a stop sign and crashed her minivan into a school bus. At the time, the deaths prompted widespread outrage among Americans who’ve been begging their leaders to enact tougher immigration laws so that accidents like this don’t happen.
After serving eight years in state prison, Franco del Cid was deported after she was released in 2016.
This time around, ICE officials said that it’s unclear how long she’s been illegally living in the United States before her arrest.
Franco del Cid is currently in the custody of ICE, a spokesperson for the agency said. She could face up to 20 years in federal prison for illegally re-entering the United States.
