Missouri officials on Monday slammed the “irresponsible and dangerous” behavior of people who crowded pools and patios at the Lake of the Ozarks over Memorial Day weekend.

Department of Health and Senior Services Director Randall Williams released a statement Monday warning people that the coronavirus pandemic is not over.

“This Memorial Day, we caution that COVID-19 is still here, and social distancing needs to continue to prevent further spread of infections,” he said. “Close contact with others even if you are in the outdoors is still considered close contact and can lead to more infections as we still have new cases of COVID-19 being detected each day in Missouri.”

The comments come after videos and photos showed scores of people at the Lake of the Ozarks during the holiday weekend. Footage of a resort in the area, which went viral after being shared by an anchor for CNN affiliate KTVK in Arizona, showed dozens in the pool without masks.

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson condemned the people in crowds, especially at the Lake of the Ozarks, calling their actions “irresponsible and dangerous.” The city of St. Louis does not have jurisdiction over the area, but its constituents frequently visit the lake.

“Now, these folks will be coming home to St. Louis and counties all over Missouri and the Midwest, raising concerns about the potential of more positive cases, hospitalizations, and tragically, deaths,” Krewson said, in a statement obtained by The Hill. “It’s just deeply disturbing.”

The Lake of the Ozarks is a vacation destination bringing people from as far as Arkansas and Iowa. This includes many from St. Louis city and county, which has counted more than half of Missouri’s cases and more than two-thirds of its deaths, according to The Associated Press.

Gov. Mike Parson (R) allowed businesses to reopen on May 4 as long as social distancing rules are maintained through the end of the month.

Missouri has confirmed at least 12,167 cases of coronavirus, leading to at least 685 deaths, according to the state’s health department.

Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus task force coordinator, said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that people who are outside and cannot maintain social distancing “must wear a mask.”

  1. Its not irresponsible for free people to enjoy themselves in company with like-minded people. Its irresponsible and worse for little Hitlers to think they can order people around. If they wish to join the military then of course they may.

  2. Here’s how it works assholes: one person that has the virus but shows no symptoms come to the party, OK so far; but then he/she exhales her virus filled breath out into the crowd, over and over, and many of the other guests breath it all in. They go home, feeling just fine but now they have the virus inside them and they breath out and spread it to everyone they are in close contact with and then each of them do the same thing……for the next 14 days until they get sick. Got it? It spreads exponentially to God unly knows how many could be traced back to the first infected party goer. Many get sick, some very sick, and other will die. The is how the Covid-19 has managed to KILL over a million people and now over 100,000 in the US. Wake up you stupid people; it ain’t really that hard: wear a mask when outside, follow social distancing protocol, and shoud you get sick, stay the f**k away from me.

  3. Anyone of you readers ever heard of Typhoid Mary? NO? Google “Typhoid Mary” and read about how a disease is spread exponentially, learn how one person over 100 years ago was responsible for the deaths of thousands upon thousands that came in contact with those that poor old Mary got started on their path to graves in cemeteries around the country. Mary was a carrier of the deadly Typhoid Virus but she herself never got sick……amazing, but true. But those that contracted the disease from Mary then infected whom ever they came in close contact with before they themselves actually got sick, or very sick, and then in all probability died themselves. So from Mary it spread to become ” The Typhoid Fever Pandemic” and from it we seemed to have learned very little; no, that’s not actually true, we did learn, we learned plenty, it’s just that now, 100 years hence we’ve decided that we’d rather die or be responsible for other people dying than give up going to a huge alcohol infused bash with morons just like ourselves. This is what the word “exponentially” means. Think about this before you take that mask off or run out to a crowded bar for night with your moron friends.
