trump fires back

Donald Trump fired back at Barack Obama after he released a statement saying that the current president should not fill the Supreme Court vacancy. The open seat in the nation’s highest court comes about following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Obama Addresses Ginsburg’s Death

In a tribute to Ginsburg after her death on Friday, Obama indicated that her Supreme Court seat should be left open until after the election in the spirit of “consistency.”

Obama wrote:

Four and a half years ago, when Republicans refused to hold a hearing or an up-or-down vote on Merrick Garland, they invented the principle that the Senate shouldn’t fill an open seat on the Supreme Court before a new president was sworn in.

A basic principle of the law — and of everyday fairness — is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on what’s convenient or advantageous in the moment. The rule of law, the legitimacy of our courts, the fundamental workings of our democracy all depend on that basic principle.

Trump Fires Back At Obama

Trump fired back on Saturday after a reporter asked him about Obama’s remarks.

“Sir, President Obama’s pick in 2016, Merrick Garland, didn’t get a chance to move forward. That was an election year. Why should your pick get a chance to move forward in an election year?” the reporter asked.

Trump has been open about the fact that he and the Republican-controlled Senate fully intend to move forward with filling Ginsburg’s seat as soon as possible. Trump has also been respectful to Ginsburg in the wake of her passing, paying tribute to her after her death. She was 87 years old.

“She led an amazing life. What else can you say?” President Donald Trump said Friday night after hearing of her death. “She was an amazing woman whether you agree or not she was an amazing woman who led an amazing life.”

  1. Trump doesn’t want to risk the consequences of the next election.

“She was an amazing woman whether you agree or not.” What kind of respectful tribute is that?

  2. FILL THAT SEAT WITHOUT ANY HESITATION, u need 9 judges on the SC to decide the election, which it may come down to. With Trump the WINNER again.

  3. OF COURSE THE IDIOT PAST MUSLIM PRESIDENT WOULD LIKE TO DO AWAY WITH THE SUPREME COURT, HE KNEW THAT HIS WOULD NOT GET ELECTED, THAT IS WHY HE NOMINATED HIM, HE IS STILL IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY.

  4. More respectful than the “it’s my way or the highway” attitude of the left. At least he is willing to give her the accolade. Reverse the situation for any conservative and all you hear is “good, finally they’re gone”. Can you recall the line from your infamous president’s speech at McCain’s funeral where he says “So much of our politics, our public life, our public discourse can seem small and mean and petty, trafficking in bombast and insult and phony controversies and manufactured outrage. It’s a politics that pretends to be brave and tough, but in fact is born of fear.” What kind of class act is that? Can’t even stop dividing the country long enough to honor a deceased soldier. Sad…
