The Duke of Edinburgh passed away earlier this year, at the age of 99. During his long life, Philip became renowned for his witty-one liners and unconventional behaviour. His reputation for plain speaking often led to controversy, and his undiplomatic language landed him in hot water on more than one occasion.

In 2000, the 99-year-old famously described the new £18million British Embassy in Berlin, which the Queen had just opened, as a “vast waste of space” and ten years later was caught telling a photographer to “just take the f***ing picture” during a photo-call with war veterans for the Battle of Britain.

According to a 2009 report by the Independent, Philip also behaved in a bizarre manner during his first meeting with former US President Barack Obama.

After getting elected twelve years ago, Mr Obama and his wife, Michelle, paid their first visit to the UK.

The First Lady had privately confessed to nervousness about meeting the Queen.

The couple entered Buckingham Palace in April 2009 and were ushered to a room within the Queen’s private apartments without advisers, aides or palace staff and beyond the prying eyes of the press.

Mr Obama was the 12th US President the Queen had met.

Prince Philip, the report claims, displayed his uncanny knack for leaving his mark on a state occasion, issuing a few forthright observations.

The report reads: “As the first couple exchanged small talk with the Queen about their gruelling schedule, the Prince swung into action, declaring: ‘You’re just trying to stay awake!’

“Then as President Obama listed his meetings with Gordon Brown, the Russian President and David Cameron, Prince Philip cut in again, asking: ‘Can you tell the difference between them?'”

The report added: “Gaffes aside, the private meeting was a special privilege for a special guest.

“As the heads of state of Britain and the United States bantered upstairs with their spouses, 19 other leaders were coming in slightly smaller limousines for the mildly less exciting prospect of canapés and cocktails with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.

“If any were miffed, they were not about to advertise it.

“They would have the working dinner at Downing Street last night to voice whatever resentments or reservations they were feeling before the start of the G20 proper, though nothing too sour, surely, to spoil the spread cooked by Jamie Oliver that included Childwickbury goat’s cheese, Welsh lamb and Bakewell tart.”

Mr Obama visited the UK four more times; in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016.

During a joint press conference with former Prime Minister David Cameron five years ago, Mr Obama revealed that the Queen was one of his favourite people.

He said: “I confess I’ve also come back to wish Her Majesty the Queen a happy 90th birthday.”

The former US leader’s praise came on the day after the monarch’s 90th birthday.

Mr Obama and his wife Michelle recalled a visit to the Queen at Windsor Castle earlier that day – the first stop during their three-day tour.

Giving details about their meeting during the press conference, the former US President said: “Earlier today Michelle and I had the honour to join Her Majesty and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh as their guests at Windsor Castle where we conveyed the good wishes of the American people.”

The Duke of Edinburgh drove the Queen into the castle grounds to meet the former President and First Lady, as they disembarked from their helicopter.

After a quick chat, there was reportedly some discussion over where people should sit, with Mr Obama opting for the front seat.

Referring to Prince Philip, who drove the Queen and the couple from their helicopter to the castle, Mr Obama said: “I have to say I have never been driven by a Duke of Edinburgh before.

“I can report that it was very smooth riding.”

  1. Larry Sinclair said things about Obama and so did his high school and college classmates.
I’m glad someone didn’t care that much about his feelings since he doesn’t care that much about other people.
    He’s an opportunist.

  2. You actually make it seem really easy with your presentation but I
in finding this matter to be actually something which I believe I’d never understand.
It kind of feels too complex and extremely broad for me.
I am looking forward in your next put up, I will try to get the grasp
    of it!

  3. I just like the helpful information you supply to your articles.

  4. You’re so awesome! I do not believe I’ve read anything
like that before. So great to find someone with a few
unique thoughts on this subject matter. Really..
many thanks for starting this up. This website is one thing that is needed on the
web, someone with a bit of originality!

  5. Thanks for your post. My spouse and i have continually noticed that a majority of people are eager to lose weight simply because wish to look slim in addition to looking attractive. Nonetheless, they do not generally realize that there are additional benefits for you to losing weight as well. Doctors assert that fat people come across a variety of health conditions that can be directly attributed to the excess weight. Thankfully that people who are overweight along with suffering from diverse diseases can help to eliminate the severity of the illnesses simply by losing weight. You possibly can see a slow but marked improvement in health whenever even a small amount of losing weight is realized.
