A 24-year-old man was arrested and arraigned on a first-degree rape charge after a girl half his age gave birth to their baby at an Oklahoma hospital, police said.
On July 14, a 12-year-old girl and the alleged father of her baby, Juan Miranda-Jara, arrived at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa so the child could give birth.
“They walked in just like any other couple would — excited to deliver their newborn child,” Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean told KOKI-TV.
Because the legal age of consent in Oklahoma is 16, doctors called authorities to the hospital. When officers showed up, the news station reported, Miranda-Jara seemed caught off guard and uncertain why they were there.
“We don’t get this kind of call every day,” Bean said. “It certainly was a surprise for everyone involved.”
According to Bean, authorities “don’t believe this is incest” but he would not elaborate to the station the nature of the relationship between the child and Miranda-Jara.
“We know there are many people in the community who are shocked by this, grossed out by this, disturbed by this, have questions, a whole range of emotions,” Bean said. “But in time, we will be able to give the community the answers they want. We just don’t have all the answers right now to give them, and we don’t want to compromise the investigation that’s still happening and really just now getting started.”
Following the investigation, KOKI-TV reported, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services will determine what will happen to the girl and her newborn, who was healthy when delivered.
The station noted the 12-year-old allegedly claimed on social media that those close to her supported her decision to raise a baby as a young mother.
A 12 year old has no business being a parent. She needs mental health care
At 12 years old, most preteens have no idea of how to raise a baby. Who was the 24 year old guy with her? The article said “their baby”, not “her” baby? What is any 24 year old man doing messing around with a 12 year old child? Either the man has mental issues or the girl is hyper-developed? But no matter what, the authorities were right to arrest the man for rape of a minor even if it was consentual.
On the other hand, in many backwards third world countries being pregnant at 12 probably is not unusual. The Cultures there are more primitive and sex is handled in a very different manner…and accepted by the whole society.
It would be interesting to know the backgrounds of both the young girl and the man plus “their” relationship. Hopefully, the man is NOT the 12 year old’s Father (not probable – he would have had to impregnated her mother when he was 12) or close relative — nor is he the father of that baby. Incest is not acceptable on any level!

In no way am I saying I condone this. However where are they from? If they are transplants to Oklahoma maybe where they are from its legal. There are countries where girls as young as six are married off to older males! Especially in the Arab world. Right or wrong.

A girl of twelve can’t support even herself, much less a child, even if the child is hers. As for the creep who did this to her, he was already 24, and surely that is old enough for him to know better and to be held accountable.
Well young pregnancies were common back in the day . Look at Loretta Lynn she was pregnant at 13 . This was common place at one time. Most girls finished their schooling by 12 years old . We live in a whole another time with different views, beliefs and customs !
There is a bad neighborhood in upstate NY were 12 year old’s having a baby is common. I saw a little girl looking like she was 8 months pregnant. I pointed it out shocked at what I was looking at, but they said that it was no big deal and the hospitals know about it too. No one was surprised but me. I know this is common in some countries, but this is the U.S. I think that this couple just moved here.
What about the child’s parents? Did they consent to their relationship?
