A “furious” Las Vegas mom is calling for the resignation of a substitute teacher who allegedly taped a face mask to her 9-year-old son after he forgot to wear it in class.
“He was very upset. He was crying. He was humiliated,” the anonymous parent told told local Fox outlet KVVU-TV of the incident, which occurred at Reedom Elementary School in Mountain’s Edge. Since July, the Clark County School District has required masks in schools, regardless of age or COVID-19 vaccination status.
The sticky situation reportedly began after the fourth-grader neglected to don his face cover after getting up to grab a drink of water.
However, instead of simply telling him to put it back on, the female teacher “pulled him up in front of the classroom” and “taped the mask across the top of his face,” the distraught mother claimed, adding that this caused the boy’s classmates to burst out laughing. School officials caught wind to the cruel and unusual punishment after the boy went to the office to retrieve some forgotten homework that his dad dropped off, Fox News reported.
The mom reported that “one of the administrators noticed the tape on his face,” whereupon they removed the adhesive and notified the principal of the public shaming display.
The school boss went to the classroom to investigate, and reportedly saw another boy with tape across their face.
The might not be the first time the sub had been caught on tape, so to speak. The boy later told his mom that he remembered five similar incidents and that it had been happening since the beginning of the school year.
The frustrated mom insists that this is not a political issue as she supports mask mandates — but doesn’t think that going to extremes is necessary: “Its crazy,” she said. “Corporal punishment in schools should not be happening.”
As such, she wants to the teacher to be held accountable for her actions, and to never mold young minds’ again.
Clark County School District has since released a statement regarding the humiliating incident, writing: “The district is aware of the isolated incident and is dealing with the employee through the proper channels. The principal proactively notified the family of the investigation.”
The mom, for one, is worried that the ordeal could have a lasting impact.
“I was scared for my son on what kind of long-term effect it is going to have on him socially,” lamented the parent, who has reportedly filed a police report and is considering transferring her child to a charter school.

I would love to put that teacher in a room for two days, lock her in, then at dinner on the third day, sit her down at the dinner table with her mouth taped shut. Maybe super glue would be better. She deserves it!

A sad encounter for all. Perhaps the lasting impact on the child will be his safety, as well as that of the teacher and fellow students, depends on the child remembering to wear his mask. I think there is a better way for the teacher to send a message. Perhaps the offender should just be removed from the classroom. Some action should definitely be taken but using tape on any child seems to be too extreme. Maybe the teacher should keep a record of any student’s lapse of memory and the child given a second chance. After that I think the child should be sent home for the day. Both the teacher and the other students are entitled to the protection of a COVID free environment.
Tapping material or just putting tape on a child’s face is child Abuse. Makes me what and who else she has abused in her life. Can’t imagine what she would do to a senior citizen! Piece of scum! Maybe she should just move to a well established Marxist country where her tactics would fit right in.
An appropriate school action bring a second substitute teacher in and the principle tell the guilty sub “your fired” in front of the class (making it stick with the school board).
