During a recent appearance, Vice President Kamala Harris said the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is another example of the US government trying to “claim control over human bodies,” effectively comparing the decision to slavery!
Harris made the inflammatory statement during the recent Essence Festival in New Orleans.
“We have to recognize we’re a nation that was founded on certain principles that are … grounded in the concept of freedom and liberty,” Harris said during a chat with actress Keke Palmer at the Festival.
“We also know we’ve had a history in this country of government trying to claim ownership over human bodies, and we had supposedly evolved from that time and that way of thinking,” she continued. “So this is very problematic on so many levels, the impact that it is going to have on women without means.”
She added, “The statement has been made that the government has a right to come in your home and tell you as a woman and as a family what you should do with your body.”
She made these remarks about a week after the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark Supreme Court decision that made abortion a constitutional right nationwide.
Here remark about “a history in this country of government trying to claim ownership over human bodies…” was a not so veiled – and decidedly unfair — comparison of the SCOTUS decision to slavery.
By overturning Roe, the Supreme Court has put the question of the legality of abortion in the hands of individual state legislatures.
The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade sparked protests nationwide – many of which turned violent, spurred by left-wing militant groups like ANTIFA. Since the decision was made public, a slew of prominent individuals, from musician Jack White to lawmakers such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Joe Biden himself, have blasted the ruling. Attorney General Merrick Garland condemned the court’s decision, saying that it’s a “devastating blow to reproductive freedom in the United States.”
However, leadership on the Right has a very different view. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in a statement that the Supreme Court ruling is “courageous and correct” and a “historic victory for the Constitution and for the most vulnerable in our society.”
He added, “For 50 years, states have been unable to enact even modest protections for unborn children. … Not anymore. Now the American people get their voice back.”
Can we all agree that she is NOT the brightest bulb in the lamp. Sometimes I wonder just how she made it through college and how many of her professors were men. She slept her way up one ladder, why not flatback professors to get through. I’m convinced that’s how AOC got her degree.
Kamala’s statement makes absolutely no sense. She’s famous for word salads, probably because she is smoking crack with the Bidens!
We should teach her about slavery first hand. Send her to the libyan slave market as merchandise
Way cool! Some very valid points! I appreciate you writing this post plus the rest of the website is very good.
