House Democrats have been preparing for a legislative sprint that will send immigration reforms to the Senate before they lose their lower chamber majority. The bill is focused on so-called Dreamers and those who benefitted from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The decision was made by House Democratic leaders during a Tuesday morning meeting in the Capitol. The announcement came only one week after the midterm election. An election during which both parties were trying to gain the support of Hispanic voters.
The DACA bill, which will be the target of this legislation, is completely separate from a House-passed bill that seeks to create a pathway to citizenship for millions of farmworkers and to create a broader immigration proposal for the implementation of a rolling registry.
The House first approved the farm workforce bill in March 2021. This means that the Senate has a chance to pass it before the current Congress ends. A registry bill was also introduced in both the House and Senate.
Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.), head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, has said that there are still details that will need to be determined, but that the legislation will be based on the framework set by the Dream and Promise Act.
Some have called this a lame-duck move on the Democrats’ part similar to the one they made in 2010 after losing the House and Senate in a landslide.
Stop playing the corrupted politics game and lock these criminal up, these are crimes against we the people/America “HANG THEM HIGH” and slow !
Amen to that!
I wish the stupid democrats would help the AMERICAN PEOPLE by opening Keystone and CLOSING the damn border!! ASSHOLES!!!
