A group of House Democrats are asking the Biden administration to stop their “punitive and failed deterrence” immigration measures and to instead officially recognize that asylum is a human right.
In a letter sent to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Dec. 9 a number of Democrats including Reps. Jesús García (Ill.), Lou Correa (Calif.) and Adriano Espaillat (N.Y.) wrote about how immigration provisions need to be a key part of Biden’s legislative agenda. The 21 Democrats also warned that they needed to be careful not to replace the Title 42 policy with even more repressive practices.
The lawmakers wrote that they should not “push U.S. asylum-processing obligations to other countries or expand the inherently flawed expedited removal process.” They added that resources needed to be added to ensure that there were humane processes in place instead of adding more punitive measures which usually include “expedited removals, lateral repatriation flights, and immigration-related prosecutions.”
Last month a court determined that the Title 42 Policy would need to be stopped, and the Biden administration was given until Dec. 21 to end its use. The administration noted that they were appealing this decision.
Title 42 was originally started during the Trump administration, and allowed border officials to deny people the right to apply for asylum due to the health concerns brought forth at the time by the rise of the COVID- 19 pandemic.

how can democrat want to destroy our country. this is insane in any way or form. why are democrats bringing illegal without regards, this is obscene, we have now average of 11 million illegal that have crossed the river, while people that wants to come in legally, are stopped by red flag at least we know whom these people that are trying to come legally will work and be a good citizen and probably will apply for citizenship. but to hand out citizenship to illegal that are a burden to our economy is without a doubt trouble for everyone. democrat and the A/H president biden ought to return everyone. and then we have the worst administration ever to run anything.
