According to the latest installments of the “Twitter Files,” former President Donald Trump was “permanently” removed from the social media platform a day after former first lady Michelle Obama and many others requested that he be banned.
This is the fourth batch of Twitter Files to have been released by CEO Elon Musk and journalist Michael Shellenberger. The files show many of the company’s executives’ internal communications from Jan. 6-8,2021. Some of these documents deal with the before and aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
Shellenberger reported that “internal and external pressure,” was the key to why Trump was banned from Twitter.
In a lengthy statement posted to Twitter after the Capitol insurrection, Michelle Obama wrote that it was about time that Silicon Valley companies stepped up and stopped allowing this “monstrous behavior”.
She even suggested that Trump needs to be permanently kicked out of Twitter and that there should be new technologies used to stop county leaders from encouraging an insurrection.
The former first lady was not the only one to call for Trump’s dismissal. Among others, the Anti-Defamation League and a number of other organizations also called for Trump to be banned.
On the morning of Jan. 7, then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sent an email to company employees stating that Trump would need to be temporarily suspended aligning in this way with the company’s policies.
